Dr. Richard Thomas Bothel currently serves as Executive Director of the Division of Continuing and Distance Education at Lamar University. His division oversees a variety of credit and noncredit departments:Continuing Education, Adult Studies, Distance Education, Community Outreach, Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum, Environmental Learning and Research, and Professional Writers Center. He is CEO of the Environmental Learning and Research Center and President of the Texas Association of Community and Continuing Education in addition to serving on a number of local boards. His education includes a B.S. in Secondary Education from Butler University, Indianapolis, IN and a M.S. in Information Communication Science, M.A. in Adult Education, and an Ed.D. in Ad and Community Education w/ ICS all from Ball State University, Muncie, IN. Dr. Bothel's focus for the past 15 years has been Distributed Learning and the use of educational technologies/resources to serve the needs of learners in a variety of settings. His special interest is in experiential learning programs in the outdoors. He has managed learning programs in 42 countries and US-based language programs. He has developed distance learning programs delivered to the United States military and students around the world. Richard Bothel is a frequent presenter at workshops and conferences. Richard has earned the highest award presented by Toastmasters International, "Distinguished Toastmaster."His awards include the Master Teacher Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development, the prestigious Grassroots award from the United States Distance Learning Association and several All-STARS awards from the Xerox Corporation. Captain Bothel's writing has also appeared in a variety of national outdoor magazines including Game and Fish who publishTexas Sportsman. Richard was a B.A.S.S. Top Six State Champion and competed in the first national B.A.S.S. Federation championship. He owned one of the largest dog training schools in the Midwest, has been a Master Gardener, has been a participant in the Texas Master Naturalist Program, and was a volunteer naturalist for the Indianapolis Parks. He is committed to preserving our natural environment and exploring the vast learning opportunities we have in the outdoors. |
